Go Green with these Tips
- Save and reuse your water bottles. Try to refill your water bottles instead of buying new ones or use a safe plastic water container.
- Make a compost in your backyard. Throw food scraps and paper towels in it.
- Turn off electronics when not in use. Even something plugged in is using electricity. Plus – you can save money.
- Turn your car off when waiting for a bridge.
- Make sure to recycle your paper, plastic, glass and aluminum. Check the top of the recycle bin for do's and don'ts.
- Use cloth grocery bags. If you use plastic grocery bags reuse them for trash bags, doggie bags, etc.
- Use organic and natural cleaning products including vinegar and baking soda.
- Recycle your old computer and parts for a low cost.
- Try walking, riding your bike or riding the bus to work at least once a week.
- Check out books at your local library instead of buying them or buy a book and share it with your friends.
- Pay all of your bills online without having the paper bills sent to you.
- Take shorter showers and don't leave the water on while brushing your teeth.
- Clean and maintain your furnace filters.
- Make sure to replace your air and fuel filter on your car.
- Recycle your cell phones or donate them to your local charity to be reused.
- Buy local food, especially produce – The food is fresher. There are less shipping costs. Support local farmers.
- When replacing appliances in your home, look for energy efficient models – these will also save you money in the long run.
- Recycle When changing your vehicle's motor oil, recycle the old oil. Some auto shops will recycle old oil from your car. Check with your local auto shop.
